Overview
Footprint Staffing is seeking a compassionate and skilled Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialist to join our team. This role is ideal for professionals dedicated to empowering individuals who are blind or visually impaired to navigate their environments safely and independently. The ideal candidate will provide personalized training, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and promote confidence and autonomy in mobility.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct assessments to determine clients’ mobility needs, strengths, and goals
Develop and implement individualized O&M training plans
Teach safe travel techniques including cane skills, street crossings, public transportation use, and environmental awareness
Provide services in school, home, and community settings
Collaborate with families, educators, and related service providers
Document progress and maintain accurate records in compliance with organizational and legal standards
Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to educational planning (if school-based)
Educate clients and caregivers on safety strategies and independent travel
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or related field
Certification from ACVREP as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS)
Active state credentials or licensure (as applicable)
CPR certification
Experience working with children, youth, or adults with visual impairments
Preferred Skills
Strong instructional and interpersonal communication skills
Familiarity with assistive technology and mobility aids
Ability to manage a diverse caseload and work independently
Experience with documentation systems and IEP processes
Team-oriented with a commitment to inclusion and empowerment
